The whole journey

Check every destination, transit stop and travel date is included. For longer holidays, check the maximum trip length—particularly with annual or credit-card policies.

Taking a cruise?

Confirm that your policy covers your particular ocean or river cruise. Ask the insurer about any cruise add-on and cover for onboard medical care, evacuation and your planned shore activities.

Your personal circumstances

Declare pre-existing medical conditions and check any age limits, medical assessments or exclusions with the insurer before buying.

Before you choose

Five things to check.

  1. Medical care and emergency support. Review benefit limits, evacuation cover and how to contact the insurer while away.
  2. Cancellation and changes. Check covered reasons, limits and when cover begins.
  3. Your activities. Confirm cover for cruising, touring and any adventure activities you plan.
  4. Baggage and valuables. Review item limits, proof-of-ownership requirements and excesses.
  5. The policy documents. Read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), exclusions and your certificate of insurance. Confirm how to activate any credit-card cover.

Cover varies between policies. Ask the insurer to confirm what applies to your itinerary and circumstances.
